Bedroom Furniture With a Twist - Think Wicker

A new wave of bedroom furniture is doing the rounds today - wicker covered furniture. Furniture created using this great resource actually utilises a solid (wooden for the most part) frame which has been covered using either cane, bamboo, woven rattan or a type of synthetic resin and pieces can include chest of drawers, wardrobes, dressing tables, bedside tables and even beds.
But it is not just the larger pieces that are adorned by this versatile material; lampshades, waste bins, toy chests and hampers, vanity bags, baby Moses baskets and many more can sport the wicker. These can all add up to rather nice decorative touches to finish off a bedroom whose main furniture items are covered by wicker. And the great thing about having a wicker inspired bedroom is that it can merge seamlessly with any style or decor of room design while at the same time adding a certain ambiance to the room.
When it comes to most wicker covered bedroom furniture, you will find that it is either synthetic wicker or loom woven wicker that is inherently used. The hard frame it covers is usually constructed of a hardwood, but sometimes you can find frames made from aluminium or even steel. On the whole, natural wicker that has been loom woven is preferred to the synthetic version when it comes to bedroom furniture and this is because it offers a more intricate finish than its artificial cousin can manage. Wicker is also a cheaper option to some other bedroom furniture material such as wrought iron or teak.
Even when choosing the natural wicker, one would have to be careful as to which type of woven material is used. Usually it is much better to go for the more dense woven option as the lighter option can very often lead to less durable furniture that is liable to not be as long-lasting as the densely woven variety.  It is also handy to know that the better quality wicker will not peel or crack, whereas the cheaper ones tend to. Also, when choosing the furniture it is extremely important to know what the frame is made from.
Once safely installed into the bedroom, wicker furniture will need some maintenance. The obligatory vacuuming and dusting is necessary to keep the piece in tip-top condition, and some clear varnishes are ideal for prolonging the life of the furniture. Another thing to be wary of is the wicker furniture getting wet. Should it do so, dry it off immediately with a dry cloth. Conversely though, at the other end of the scale wicker can crack and peel if it gets too dry (bedroom heating, etc), so it is advisable to clean the furniture using a damp cloth which at least is them able to restore a semblance of moisture back into the wicker, again helping to prolong its life or usefulness
